The two major highlights include:
(1) Eduardo Chillida Convergence. Experience the powerful sculptures of Eduardo Chillida in this exhibition marking the one-hundred-year anniversary of the artist’s birth. See 100 works ranging from large-scale sculptures to delicate works on paper, plus a virtual reality (VR) experience of Chillida’s bold site-specific work on the cliffs of San Sebastián, Spain. This not-to-missed show is the most expansive survey of Chillida’s works shown in the US in nearly 50 years.
(2) The Visible Vaults recreates part of The San Diego Museum of Art’s most carefully guarded area, a place that is invisible to most visitors—the vaults—where the thousands of works of art in our collection are stored. See this insider’s look at hidden masterpieces, where visitors are invited to open drawers, peek into virtual storerooms, and take the time to sketch and observe some of the great treasures of the collection.
PARKING
The Museum is located in the heart of historic Balboa Park, on the Plaza de Panama. Parking options are available throughout the park. The closest parking lot is in the Alcazar lot, located South and West of the Museum and just a short walk away. The Organ Pavilion parking lot has abundant parking located a 10-minute walk from the Museum. Additional parking may be found in the Inspiration Point, Palisades, Federal, Balboa, Natural History, and Zoo parking lots. Trams run daily from parking areas at Inspiration Point, on Pan American Plaza, and behind the Hall of Champions, stopping at the Plaza de Panama in front of the Museum.
Valet parking is available for a small fee in front of The Prado Restaurant at the House of Hospitality. Hours of service are Saturday from 10:00 a.m. through 11:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. through 10:00 p.m.
SOCIAL HOUR
We plan to enjoy post-tour company, conversation, and no-host food/drink at THE PRADO. Since this is a Saturday, happy hour menu is unfortunately not available.
